Gregory Wathelet signed the most beautiful victory of his career this Sunday July 23rd at the CHIO in Aachen (GER), one of the Majors of the Grand Chelem. Riding Corée, the Belgian rider won the Grand Prix of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping, after finishing the jump off faster than Luciana Diniz on Fit for Fun, 2nd, and Marc Houtzager with Calimero, 3rd. Thanks to this victory, Gregory Wathelet initiates his Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. His next objective will obviously be the Grand Prix of the Spruce Meadows Masters in Calgary on September 10th. A day during which he will celebrate his birthday. Will this bring him luck? The answer in 2 months.
Gregory's reaction
"When one practices this sport, one dreams of winning he Grand Prix Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping in Aachen. Today I am privileged to have done so. One always arrives in Aachen with a motivation not of 100% but of 500%.
My name will be written on the winners' wall, but without Corée who was extraordinary today, and without my owners and my whole team, who stand by me during the entire season, I wouldn't occupy this 1st place today. I am really grateful to them.
I'm extremely impatient to be in the Spruce Meadows Masters for the next Major Grand Chelem. I will rodé Eldorado, because Corée will jump the European Championships 15 days earlier.
And I will do all I can to win a second consecutive victory in a Rolex Grand Slam class".
