It is with great pride that Gregory followed the final four tournament which featured his former partner, Cortes C.
“Cortes was always an exceptional horse. I again recall the day where I tried Cortes for the first time at the stables of his previous owner. Cortes was just turning 7 at the time. He was very stiff, couldn’t change his leads and jumped only up to a height of 1.20m in the ring at this point. But he already possessed all the scope and was very careful. After this trial, the owner confided in me and sent Conrad to my stabls. After some months (by the end of his 7 year old year), I implored that my then sponsor, Sea Coast, buy the horse. The owner of Sea Coast was hesitant but I pushed him to buy Cortes as I thought that there was something really extraordinary about the horse relative to other horses I had ridden. Only one year later, Cortes was 2nd in the World Cup class in Malines at the age of 8. Unfortunately for me, offers were coming quickly from people interested in buying the horse and it became difficult to refuse such offers. We therefore decided to sell the horse. But my satisfaction came from knowing that he went to such a great rider, thus allowing him to have a fantastic career. I am thus very proud of having found, developed and seen this horse through to the top level. This is a huge reward for me.
